WHO ARE OPTIMIST CRUISERS?
Optimist Cruisers are sailors, ages 8-11, who are confident sailing solo and have mastered the Explorer skills. They are ready for more challenging adventures. Sailors will focus on upwind sailing and build confidence in boat handling while learning about points of sail. Activities include scavenger hunts, sailing to Bde Maka Ska's beaches, Sail Cross, and more.

MORE SPECIFICS:
Instructors accompany sailors on the water in safety boats, providing coaching and ensuring safety.

Sailors can sail 1-2 per boat, but we encourage solo sailing. Friends are welcome to sign up together and cruise as a pair.

Each session introduces new activities and adventures, encouraging sailors to return and continue building their cruising skills.

Sailing every day is not guaranteed. If wind or weather conditions are unsafe, we’ll play games and learn on shore.

WHAT’S NEXT?
After checking off the Optimist Cruisers skills, sailors who are interested in racing can move on to Optimist Racing. Sailors not interested in racing can keep cruising until they reach 420 Explorer age.
