INDIVIDUAL and group LESSONS

PRICE: $60 per hour; add $25 per additional person

Are you interested in personalized individual lessons with our experienced instructors? Do you have a small group that wants to learn how to sail? We now offer custom lessons tailored to your skill level and schedule.  

Private lessons include up to four sailors in an Ensign Keelboat. We also teach on the 420 for those with some sailing experience looking for a faster, more challenging dinghy sailboat.  

Lesson Times

  • Lessons begin in mid-May and end in September.

  • Daily - Noon to 5:00 PM with limited availability after 5:00 PM. Click Book a lesson to check the schedule.

Lessons can be as short as 1 hour and up to 3 hours. We recommend a minimum of 1.5 hours for 420 lessons and 2 hours for Laser lessons to allow time for rigging the boat.

lesson information

  • Membership is not required to book a private lesson. There is not a member discount for private or group lessons.

  • Lessons meet at our Boathouse (3010 E Bde Maka Ska Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55408). Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time to get signed in. To save time, please complete the Lesson Waiver before your lesson.

  • If you have life jackets, feel free to bring them. We have extras available free of charge if you need one.

  • Check weather conditions before leaving home and dress appropriately.

  • In the event of poor weather conditions, MSC will contact you no later than 1 hr before your lesson starts to discuss a plan or schedule a makeup.

  • We recommend quick-drying clothing with UV protective properties. Long-sleeve swim shirts, sunglasses, and wide-brimmed hats all help to prevent sunburn and long-term skin and eye damage. Your feet will likely get wet. Aqua socks, submersible sneakers, or sandals with a back strap (Teva, Chaco, Keen) are all acceptable. Flip-flops are not allowed. Shoes must be worn at all times.

Private Lesson Policies

  • Students pay for their lessons upon completion.

  • Two no-call no-shows will result in losing the ability to book lessons.
