WHO ARE INTRO TO RACERS?
Sailors in the 420 Intro to Racing class have taken the 420 Cruisers class or can demonstrate basic boat handling and sailing knowledge and would like to start racing. Sailors will gain racing experience as skipper and crew in a smaller class setting.
MORE SPECIFICS:
Emphasis will be on improving boat handling skills and confidence under a variety of wind conditions. This class offers new challenges, and an exciting racing experience and will prepare the sailor for the 420 Race Team. This is a smaller class that includes more individualized coaching.
Sailors will learn the rules of racing, boat handling, sail trim, and basic race strategy and tactics.
Getting out on the water each day of the session is not guaranteed. On days when the wind is too high to be on the water safely, we play games and learn on shore.
We encourage sailors to participate in the local Twin Cities Youth Sailing (TCYS) Regattas at local lakes.
WHAT’S NEXT?
After checking off all their Intro to Race skills, Sailors are ready to move on to the Youth 420 Race Team.
